*“Sheryl Hester is a self-taught photographer and digital artist who draws her inspiration from nature and spending time in the great outdoors. Her artistic technique is unlike anything seen before. Her interpretation of everyday images garners intrigue and makes you contemplate the benefits of exploring your own imagination. The initial camera-based images have been significantly altered, distorted, re-structured, and re-formatted to present a primordial landscape of abstract natural forms, fantasy-based illusions and altered perceptions of individual artistic expression. Sheryl eschews pre-visualized and representational aspects of the conventional photograph in favor of a more intuitive, symbolic and spontaneous approach to the subject, by digital hand painting. Other images are not combined to form the shapes. A photograph of a bird may be digitally hand-painted to portray a horse, or a plant may be altered to portray a person. The effect is an abstract and often whimsical design inherently connected to people, places and things.”
